Today the big stuff was ordered (other than the plane/hotel/car which was booked before the last typhoon came by the island). I already shopped out the big stuff for the solar power system and pulled the trigger, now that the last typhoons backlog is clearing.
Next is the wires etc which is a schematic much simpler than what was on the last boat I lived on. I should post the solar schematic now that it’s fairly locked in. There’s a bunch of timelines that are converging that make a more complicated schematic that is very nice to have finally converging.
Other than that maybe my nephew sells my car after we go to the airport and he drops me off from it. That would be sweet.
I’m coming in on most important stuff being on order. Once I get the place rented: turn on the solar aircon asap. Garden doesn’t have much to pre-order, mostly the cloth bags and maybe some food granules. Ok build my soil per the college on the island and there’s a lot that goes into the people to meet and pulling that off. The garden is fun time, learning about what to grow there and how etc.
Today I also ordered stuff for the mainland/here before I go. Pre-shopped the hell out of it too; special guitar case for my stratocaster to go with, amphibious shoes for jungles and coral plains, and a full sized abs airline bag to check.
What am I missing? Plenty: a cable lock for guitar and lockbox for important docs at home. Maybe insurance for that and medical evac if I ever had to be shipped to Hawaii or Guam if I got sick (the insurance isn’t much but if you didn’t have it you could be in big trouble). And a 40quart fridge/freezer 12/24v, and it should be there from day 1 for shear typhoon prep. That’s getting into the weeds though.
There’s a bunch of other stuff too like sunscreen and I don’t know…
Ok, so maybe not too much detail and I didn’t give away any secrets of pulling this particular move off. There’s not a lot of secrets though. I got my real ID and passport reupped and things got real by then. Funny how things come to be. Massive synchronicity on all this!
Thanks Mom and Jenny and everyone that trusted, and backstopped me to do this. And just basically put up with me. It’s a dream I’ve been dreaming ever since I moved to the peninsula and then to boats. And during the last couple years been trying to get on over to a couple top destinations. Then it gets wierd and BAM the dream goes real tine. This is it.

Lastly the fun part, not that I don’t like the technical challenges, but, how about fresh fruits and veggies. I’ll have to defer to the locals, but, it appears I can grow dwarf papaya, long beans, cherries, and the slightly sweeter lemon/ lime calimansi fruit, and green onion which are fast, high yield and mostly continuous year round. I havn’t settled on which greens to grow yet, there’s a few contenders.
Also the water catchment; need to put into action unless the rental has a nice cistern. I may be able to start a big part of my cloth bag garden during this rainy season before a water catchment is arranged. Anyway municipal water is too much to process to make drinkable or to use on the plants. The sky provides plenty of pure water there.
Ya see, lots of time lines. So far so good. They say 80% of people fail doing the moving to another culture thing. Just because this is a U.S. territory doesn’t mean it isn’t 5k miles across the ocean away from the mainland and inhabited mostly by indigenous and pacific islanders. Which makes my white hide a tiny minority, therefore; much like moving to another country and very different cultures.
