Eckhart Tolle says thank you will suffice if your only prayer.
Also that gratitude is the foundation of all abundance.
Far reaching/teaching concepts of course. And I boil it down to an ongoing realization that many things have to go right to make it through a day without the urge to automatically curse fate.
It works as a sort of back handed reminder that because something worked out; it’s important to be grateful that it wasn’t worse. So it’s easy to always have constant gratitude and alert awareness/simply paying attention to what you are doing.
Beats the hell out of taking seeming normality for granted. For instance: if you’re not stressed out and you don’t have a tension headache or lower back pain- then you feel normal. So if you’ve got it together; to notice that feeling normal is feeling really good is something to be grateful for. This applies to everything else that happens one moment to the next.
Might even have just made it past a series of failures that made you want to curse but there’s always a plethora of other things that are working out. You know: smell that rose, notice when you walk by the rose bush the whole area smells really nice just like Grandma’s house (while you’re at it notice that however Grandma’s fate has been she left you that; so be grateful for that too). Notice that yes you are walking, you could be stuck in a wheelchair or worse; in extreme pain or partially insane (as most of us are for a good portion of our lives) so that you are making yourself feel bad without even noticing it, when your own internal attitude adjustment can make the unfolding of the universe as it is quite beautiful.
Okay that’s my lecture for Thanksgiving Day, thank you.
P.S. And as my favorite sort of gurus and wisdom of the ages points to: the universe is unfolding as it should and by welcoming each moment as a gift is the ultimate in Grace.
