Doing correct pushups works many muscles. I suggest doing them along with other core work (sit ups etc), leg work (squats, lunges etc), for a well rounded major muscle groups workout that you can do anywhere, is safe: as long as you know about keeping proper angles with knees, arms, and wrists (also strengthen and increase mobility of shoulders and wrists as suggested in this video). All major muscle groups have to be worked out every week, but, for upper body in particular it’s the pushups that are key.
Doing correct pushups is necessary in dealing with neck and shoulder tightness. All of the muscles working together create balance which makes it much easier to manage the tight tissue. Of course stretching after each workout is not just recommended it is mandatory as part of the package. Most people should be doing a few minutes of hand arm shoulder stretches every single day and if you’re having difficulty with tight tissue it’s your boat as well.
Once you’re doing a few minutes of push-ups a couple times a week you’ll notice that stress management in upper body in particular starts becoming easier quickly. So along with the stretching afterwards and everyday hand arm shoulder stretches the only other thing you need to do is a couple of minutes of self-massage where you’re getting your fingers into your neck and your shoulders as recommended by Boris Prilutsky on his free self massage instruction page http://medicalmassage-edu.com/free-lessons/self-massage-free-lessons/
As far as getting into the hand arm shoulder stretches I don’t have a video for you yet but they are the standard ones that anyone will teach you pretty much the same thing. The variation I do with them is for each stretch I focus on normal breathing and on the third breath of each stretch I challenge the stretch a little bit further.
Hey you want to almost always walk around with no aches and pains well you came to the right place pal. I do it for myself and I’ll teach you for free. You know like free beer: you still got to do the work and it ain’t always going to be easy. At first some of the stuff might be a little painful, healthy pain only, and you need to understand exactly what that means and pay attention to what’s going on. No drinking a bunch of wine and trying any of this stuff or even pain meds since you can’t pay attention to what’s going on in your body if it is dulled with drugs.
Also some of it’s a little awkward though it’s all simple. So that’s the gauntlet: a few minutes a day paying attention doing stuff and another small chunk of time each week doing some self massage and you of course have to do your exercise routine: not a big deal. Either listen to your body or it’s going to talk to you about it because it’s always talking and you don’t listen the equation is: well then you drag around pain like so many people do and are more highly susceptible to injury, more cranky, stressed out, replace joints sooner, other conditions are worse, your immune system doesn’t function as well, you die sooner etc/etc, you know the dance.
